About Stas Bodrov

Stas Bodrov is a civil litigator at SBA Lawyers LLP in Toronto who defends disputes tied to insurance. The experience spans accident benefits, coverage, bodily injury claims and privacy matters. Auto insurance, loss transfer and priority fights between insurers, and premises liability are the main areas of practice.

Bodrov is a regular at Ontario's Licence Appeal Tribunal and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and has also taken part in court proceedings and private arbitrations. Contracts come up constantly, from insurance policies to service agreements. Bodrov was called to the Ontario bar in 2017 after earning JDs from both the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law in 2016.

Outside the courtroom, Bodrov speaks and writes about the law. Talks have covered privacy breaches at the SECTOR security conference in Toronto, fraud red flags for an insurance adjusters' group in St. Jacobs, and a mock trial for the Ontario Mutual Insurance Association in 2024. Posts on SBA's blog tend to have playful titles; one, "Schrödinger's Incident," looks at a Court of Appeal ruling that an event can be an accident and not an accident under the SABS at once.

Water safety is a long-running commitment. Bodrov has served as Corporate Secretary and legal advisor on the Ontario board of the Royal Lifesaving Society since 2020, chaired the Society's Standards Committee in 2019, and received the Society's Service Medal at a Queen's Park investiture in December 2023, an honour for at least five years of volunteer service.
