About Avi
Avi Flomen began their legal career in civil and commercial litigation at one of Canada's top litigation boutiques before transitioning to Indigenous law, later serving as in-house legal counsel to an Inuit government. Their work now focuses on Aboriginal and treaty rights, Indigenous title, governance support, election and membership codes, and treaty negotiation and implementation, including drafting foundational laws for Indigenous governments such as citizenship and election legislation. They hold a BCL/LLB from McGill University (2017), a BA with distinction in art history and political science also from McGill, and a master's degree in political science from the University of Toronto specializing in ethnic, pluralism, and immigration studies. Avi is fluent in French and joined Woodward & Company as a lawyer in 2025, holding memberships with the Barreau du Québec (2017), the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador (2020), and the Law Societies of Ontario and Alberta (2023). Outside law, they enjoy visual arts and creative writing.
