About Anne Tardif

Anne Tardif is a litigation partner with Gowling WLG in Ottawa who works with clients in English or French with equal ease. Those clients range from individuals and professionals to private companies and public bodies. The disputes cover a lot of ground: commercial and procurement fights, public and constitutional law, tax, nuclear matters and complex construction. Anne also acts for health professionals, both in medical defence lawsuits and when they face discipline.

Anne is originally from Montreal. After a BA at McGill, Anne earned a law degree at Dalhousie and graduated with the gold medal for the highest overall mark, then clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Justice Michel Bastarache. Called to the Ontario bar in 2006, Anne has worked both in private practice and in government, as legal counsel for the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board. Gowling WLG became Anne's firm in 2017, after many years with a litigation firm.

Anne has appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada, in every level of court in both Ontario and Alberta, and in the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Tax Court of Canada. Arbitrations and regulatory hearings are part of the work too, with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board among the tribunals.

Within the profession, Anne holds a seat on Ontario's Civil Rules Committee, an appointment made by the Law Society of Ontario, and helps run Gowling's Ottawa office as a member of its management committee. For many years Anne was a trial advocacy instructor at the University of Ottawa, and Anne is often asked to speak on commercial and public law. Best Lawyers in Canada named Anne its 2026 Lawyer of the Year for Corporate and Commercial Litigation in Ottawa, and Lexpert has called Anne a Rising Star.

Commercial disputes are a regular topic when Anne is asked to speak, and in December 2025 that meant presenting at The Advocates' Society's Top Cases in Commercial Litigation program. The appellate side shows at the Supreme Court of Canada, where the City of Ottawa, an intervener in Kosicki v. Toronto (City), had Anne present its oral argument.

    Anne Tardif and Rodrigue Escayola of Gowling WLG were counsel for the respondents, Tammy Zollinger, Condominium Management Group and a group of Carleton condominium corporations, and Anne presented the oral argument. The Court allowed the appeal with costs, set aside the Court of Appeal's order and reinstated the trial judgment, with Justice Côté dissenting.
