About Amber Bonnell Hamilton

Amber Bonnell Hamilton is a commercial litigator in Gowling WLG's Waterloo Region office, acting for everyone from private clients to multinational businesses, many of them in technology, automotive and product manufacturing. Estate and trust disputes, product liability claims and real estate litigation are where most of the work sits. Amber is in court a lot, with appearances that reach the Court of Appeal and administrative bodies like the Real Estate Commission of Ontario, and looks at each dispute as a whole when helping clients find creative ways to resolve contentious problems.

Amber graduated in 2018 with the third class ever to finish at Lakehead University's Bora Laskin Faculty of Law and was that year's valedictorian. Amber's Integrated Practice Curriculum placement was with Waddell Phillips Professional Corporation, a downtown Toronto firm, working mostly on class action files. After that placement Amber joined Gowling WLG, with a call to the Ontario bar in 2018. Amber has also appeared before the Landlord and Tenant Board and in Provincial Offences Court. In 2021 came an eight month secondment to LinkedIn's Global Compliance department in California, helping with investigations and internal concerns. Amber was admitted to the Gowling WLG partnership on January 1, 2026.

Outside the firm, Amber stays busy in the profession's own organizations. At the Defence Research Institute (DRI), Amber is Vice Chair of DRI for Life, an international network of defence lawyers, as well as marketing chair for the young lawyers' product liability division and a member of the Young Lawyers Steering Committee, and co-presented at the Young Lawyers' Seminar in New Orleans in 2025. Closer to home, Amber has served on Ontario Bar Association committees, the OBA Council among them, and has chaired OBA insurance law programs on product liability.

Access to legal education matters to Amber. Amber has spent five years on the firm's Student Committee, enjoys working with law students and junior lawyers as they find their footing, and volunteers often at the University of Waterloo, speaking at and working with the Legal Studies Society and Women in Pre Law. Amber also speaks up for the Integrated Practice Curriculum and other alternative routes to licensing, and in 2025 helped the local Momentum Committee, a DEI initiative, put on the Waterloo Region office's first drag show and bingo. Away from work, you'll find Amber hiking, reading, travelling, vintage shopping or building Lego with family, with a plan to hike in every Canadian province.
