About Alycia Riley

Employers who need help with both their people and their data work with Alycia Riley, a Toronto partner in Gowling WLG's Employment, Labour & Equalities group. Alycia's practice joins employment law with data privacy, and companies in the tech sector are a particular interest. On the privacy side the work runs from compliance and breach reporting to building out a privacy program. On the workplace side it takes in hiring, human rights, health and safety, and labour and employee relations.

Alycia was called to the Ontario bar in 2018, the year after finishing law school at Queen's, and practised as an associate in the firm's Toronto office before Gowling WLG made Alycia a partner in January 2026. A CIPP/C certification from the International Association of Privacy Professionals followed in 2024.

Alycia speaks often on the firm's employment webinars and writes on questions like what a data breach really costs and how employers can manage AI risk. Canadian HR Reporter has quoted Alycia on Ontario's string of Working for Workers acts and on the federal privacy commissioner's guidance on biometric data, stressing that an employer's first question should be why it needs that data at all. Within the Ontario Bar Association, Alycia holds 2025-26 roles in both the Labour & Employment Law and Data Privacy Law sections.

Away from files, Alycia loves to travel and always has another trip in the planning stages. Archeology is a long-standing fascination too, one that hours of Indiana Jones films helped spark. Alycia also gives time regularly to Pro Bono Ontario and to other non-profit groups.
