Business & Corporate LawAllen Fownes founded Fownes Law Offices in 1985, the year he was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar, building a general practice based first in Liverpool and later adding Halifax and Barrington offices. He holds a BA in political science and economics from the University of King's College (1981) and an LL.B. from Dalhousie Law School (1984), where he received the Canada Permanent Trust Company Prize for the highest standing in Equity and Trusts. His practice covers civil litigation, wills and estates, real property matters including rights of way and boundary disputes, and corporate and commercial work, along with personal injury litigation. He has also been licensed as a Foreign Legal Consultant before the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court since 1994. He is a past president of the Western Counties Barristers' Association and has served as vice-chair of the Wills and Estates subsection of the Canadian Bar Association.
