About Allan
Allan E. Black, now retired, is a founding partner of Black Burke Mayor, peer rated as one of Canada's leading labour and employment lawyers, recognized by Lexpert and the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review. He has extensive experience representing trade unions, faculty associations, and employees in labour relations, administrative, employment, human rights, and education law, appearing before provincial and federal labour relations boards, arbitration boards, and all levels of court. Allan is a former Vice-Chair of the British Columbia Labour Relations Board and has acted as an arbitrator in numerous grievances. He is a past Chair of the Labour Subsection of the BC Branch of the Canadian Bar Association. Allan received his BA in 1966 and his LLB in 1969, both from the University of British Columbia, trained in negotiation and mediation at Harvard Law School, was called to the BC bar in 1970, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1999.
