About Alfred

Alfred Kwinter co-founded Singer Kwinter in 1974 with his law school classmate Morris Singer, after being called to the Ontario bar in 1972. He earned his law degree from the University of Toronto in 1970 and is certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Civil Litigation. His practice centers on personal injury, property loss, medical malpractice, and insurance law, and he has argued cases at every level of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada in Oldfield v. Transamerica Insurance Company. He is the only lawyer in Canada to have secured four separate punitive damage awards against insurers, and he acted for the plaintiff in Kamin v. Kawartha Dairy, which lowered the burden on plaintiffs in slip and fall cases. Alfred also obtained the highest chronic pain award in Canada in Degennaro v. Oakville Trafalgar Hospital. He is an adjunct professor at Osgoode Hall and has taught trial practice in the Bar Admission Course and was appointed to the Order of Canada for his contributions to the profession.
