About Alex

Alex Smith is an associate at Torys. Before joining the firm, he served as law clerk to Justice Michelle O'Bonsawin at the Supreme Court of Canada, and later clerked for Justices Alexandra Hoy, Ian Nordheimer, Grant Huscroft and Kathryn Feldman at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. During law school and his LLM studies, he stayed active outside the classroom, serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief for the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law Review and acting as General Editor for the Cambridge International Law Journal. He also worked within Downtown Legal Services, serving as a division leader and caseworker for its Refugee and Immigration Law practice, and additionally acted as a student academic advisor. As a mooter, he took part in the Cassels Brock Cup and the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot, advancing through both national and international rounds. He belongs to The Advocates' Society and the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History, and serves as a mentor with the University of Toronto's International Relations Program Alumni Association.
