About Miller Maki LLP

Miller Maki LLP is a full service law firm based in Sudbury, Ontario, with a history that goes back to 1909, when R. R. McKessock opened a legal practice in the city. George Miller joined in 1913, and when McKessock enlisted for service in the First World War, Miller carried the practice on alone before setting up an independent firm in 1920. In 1934 Miller took on an articling student, Kauko Elias Maki, one of the first lawyers of Finnish heritage called to the Ontario bar in 1940. Maki stayed on as a partner, and the firm has carried the Miller Maki name ever since.

Today the firm operates as a limited liability partnership from 176 Elm Street in downtown Sudbury, with six lawyers supported by law clerks and legal assistants. It practises civil litigation, corporate and commercial law, family law, real estate law, wills and estates law, and refugee and immigration law, and it accepts Legal Aid certificates for that immigration work. Miller Maki serves Greater Sudbury and the wider region, and its lawyers regularly travel across Northeastern Ontario to handle matters in Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins and Thunder Bay. The firm offers legal services in both of Canada's official languages.
