About Yetunde Amodu

Yetunde Amodu is an associate with Gowling WLG's Real Estate and Financial Services Group in Toronto, working with global financial institutions, development finance banks and corporate clients on how their projects, real estate and corporate deals get financed. Day to day, that means files involving lending, corporate finance, securitization and insolvency.

It's a practice that crosses borders. After an LLM in New York, Amodu spent about five months in NYU's Office of General Counsel, then went home to Nigeria, where the call came in 2017. From 2018 to 2021 the associate worked in banking and finance at Templars, and the team there closed the Lekki Deep Sea Port project. Banking and finance work at Carey Olsen in Jersey followed from 2022 to 2024. The Ontario call came in 2023, after Amodu wrote the five exams the NCA assigned. The call in the United Kingdom also dates to 2023.

Amodu is from Oyo State and spent the formative years in Lagos. Math never held much appeal, but a love of reading and writing pointed the way to law. Moving between Nigeria, Jersey and Canada has been part of the appeal: Amodu enjoys getting to know new jurisdictions and how their law works in practice.

Outside the office, Amodu has been active with the Black Female Lawyers' Network, first chairing its Membership and Mentorship Committee and, by September 2025, serving as secretary, and offers to mentor internationally trained lawyers through the requalification process in Canada. The words on Amodu's NYU personal statement were "Global always," and that's still the goal, with an eye to one day being the person brought in to negotiate complex infrastructure work and international trade deals.
