About Winston

Winston Smith graduated from the Manitoba Law School at the University of Manitoba and was called to the bar in 1967, bringing nearly five decades of experience to his practice. He worked as an associate and partner at the former firm of Tallin and Company from 1967 to 1977, then as associate, partner, and managing partner at Monk, Goodwin and Company from 1977 to 1983, practising both civil and criminal law. He served as Regional Counsel for Canadian Pacific Limited starting in 1983, managing the law and claims departments in Winnipeg, and later joined the Transportation Department of the Aikins law firm in 1995 before moving to Hook & Smith in 2001. Winston now practises in corporate, commercial, and residential real estate law, wills, estates, and trusts, as well as employment and transportation law. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in Manitoba in 1996 and is a member of both the Manitoba and Saskatchewan Law Societies, and a Lecturer with the University of Manitoba's Transport Institute.
