About Thierry

Martel joined Martel Cantin in 2004 to begin his Barreau articling, pausing to complete a Master's in Taxation at the Université de Sherbrooke in 2006 before being sworn in in 2007. He is recognized in Canadian tax law and corporate law, focusing on serving Quebec small and medium-sized businesses and their owners by optimizing their tax position, negotiating and structuring business purchases and sales, drafting shareholder agreements, and protecting assets. He has extensive experience with start-ups and intergenerational business transfers, and drafts trust deeds, complex wills, and incapacity mandates for business owners. He teaches business law at the École du Barreau du Québec and has taught estate planning, tax research methodology, and corporate law for non-lawyers in the Université de Sherbrooke's Master's in Taxation program. He was named to Best Lawyers for trusts and estates in 2022 and was named Avocat de l'année in corporate law by the AJBM in 2010.
