Sylvain Deslauriers

About Sylvain

Sylvain Deslauriers is counsel at Renno & Vathilakis and has been a member of the Barreau du Québec since 1976. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ottawa and a law degree from the Université de Sherbrooke, along with specialized training in conflict resolution from Harvard University. His practice has spanned commercial, civil, regulatory, disciplinary and estate law, and he has appeared before every level of court in Quebec, the Federal Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, as well as before public bodies. He served as a substitute for the Attorney General of Quebec, defended clients in several landmark class actions, and has advised companies through financial restructuring and insolvency. He has acted as a contract and financing advisor on public-private infrastructure partnerships, construction projects and business acquisitions, and has advised postsecondary institutions on internal and disciplinary regulations. He has also served as an arbitrator, including as chair of the arbitration committee under the National Energy Board Act, and led internal corporate investigations. He was a director of the Jeune Barreau de Montréal, secretary of the Montreal Bar, an administrator of the Barreau du Québec and a member of its discipline committee, and has taught negotiation and trial preparation at the Barreau du Québec and at the Université de Sherbrooke's law faculty.
