About Susan

Susan V.R. Billington, K.C. is counsel at Billington Barristers in Calgary and an experienced mediator. She graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary in 1985 and was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1986. Susan practiced in litigation and as a solicitor before spending 20 years at the Law Society of Alberta, where she held roles including Complaints Resolution Officer, Complaints Manager and Policy and Program Counsel, and helped establish pro bono legal clinics in Edmonton, Red Deer, Lethbridge and Grande Prairie. In 2007 she was seconded for two years as founding Executive Director of Pro Bono Law Alberta. She also joined the University of Calgary's Faculty of Law in August 2019 as an Associate Professor and Executive Director of Student Legal Assistance, the Faculty's pro-bono legal clinic. Susan was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2008, received a Woman in Law Leadership Award in 2012, and later received a Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Bar Association and the Law Society of Alberta.
