About Steven

Steven Cooper grew up in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut and has been a member of the NWT Bar for 26 years, including nearly a decade working in Hay River in civil, criminal, administrative, and municipal law. He has represented plaintiffs in complex litigation against the City of Yellowknife, the Town of Hay River, and other municipal bodies in the NWT, Nunavut, and Alberta. He has served as chair of the Legal Services Board of the NWT and the South Slave Divisional Board of Education, and has sat on Nunavut Law Society and NWT Law Society committees covering membership, discipline, ethics, and editorial matters. He was a member of the Baxter National Consortium Negotiation Committee, which represented roughly half of Canada's Residential School claimants and helped negotiate the $5 billion national Residential School Settlement.
