About Stephanie Harvey

Stephanie Harvey handles corporate and commercial lending as a partner in Gowling WLG's Hamilton office, with a focus on mid-market deals. Lenders and borrowers alike have relied on Harvey to get secured loans, asset-backed financings and equipment financings to closing, and the practice sits within the firm's Financial Institutions & Services Group.

Harvey was called to the Ontario bar in 2009 and became a partner at Gowling WLG effective January 1, 2022. Alongside the deal work, there's a deep grounding in recovery services law, especially what mortgage lenders can do to enforce their rights, which gives Harvey a view of a loan's whole life cycle. For several years, Harvey also served as a contributing editor of Marriott and Dunn: Practice in Mortgage Remedies in Ontario.

Explaining lending to the people who use it is part of the job too. In the firm's Types of Security video series, Harvey walks bankers through Bank Act security and the security agreement. At Gowling WLG's 2nd Annual Cross-Institutional Lending Conference, Harvey and Emma Dalziel co-presented on the things that can stand between a lender and full recovery after a default, from CRA deemed trusts to loan agreements that don't line up.
