About Scott

Scott Newell has practised law for more than twenty-five years, with a focus on employment, labour, administrative, civil litigation and human rights law. He was called to the Saskatchewan bar in 1998 and to the Alberta bar in 2001, where he now holds non-practising status, and holds a B.A. (with honours) and LL.B. from the University of Saskatchewan. He spent several years in media law, handling defamation, access to courts, publication bans and freedom of expression matters under section 2(b) of the Charter. He began his career at major law firms in Saskatoon and Calgary before becoming Labour Relations Director in 2009 for a large Saskatchewan organization with more than 20,000 affiliated employees. He joined the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission in 2012 and served as its General Counsel from 2015 to 2023. He has appeared before the Labour Relations Boards and all levels of court in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and has represented clients in court actions, grievance proceedings, human rights complaints and occupational health and safety matters across multiple jurisdictions.
