Partner at Rusonik, O'Connor, Ross, Hershberg, Ghebrai & MacDonald LLP
Sayed Hafizi represents people facing criminal and quasi-criminal charges before every level of court. He clerked for the Honourable Justice Lloyd Dean, who sits on the Ontario Court of Justice, gaining insight into criminal proceedings from a judge's perspective. He completed his articles at the firm before returning as a partner. His caseload has included matters involving theft, robbery, homicide, terrorism, trafficking, and sexual assault allegations. Sayed pays close attention to whether police and the courts have complied with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and has persuaded the Crown to withdraw prosecutions based on Charter breaches; in R. v. B.C., his client was acquitted at trial after the police breached the accused's right to counsel. He is fluent in both English and Dari.
