Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionRyder Gilliland is a partner whose litigation practice covers commercial disputes, defamation, and privacy and cybersecurity matters. He has appeared at every level of court in Ontario, as well as before the Federal Court, the Tax Court of Canada, and the Supreme Court of Canada, and regularly acts in domestic and international commercial arbitrations. For more than 15 years he has advised newspapers, digital publishers, and broadcasters on defamation, publication bans, and privacy issues, and he is past president of both the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society and the Canadian Media Lawyers' Association. He also advises clients on fraud, extortion, and cybersecurity breaches requiring investigation and reputation management. Before co-founding DMG Advocates, Ryder spent 15 years at a national law firm, nine of them as a partner. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002 and holds an LL.B. from Dalhousie University and a B.A. from the University of Toronto.
