Trademarks and copyright sit at the centre of Robbie Turchyn's work as an associate with Gowling WLG in Hamilton. Turchyn handles disputes and litigation over those rights, takes marks through prosecution, and negotiates licences, with sports, entertainment and general commercial files rounding out the practice.

Clients in Canada and abroad, working in a wide mix of industries, come to Turchyn for help with IP strategy and enforcement. That can mean a fight over a trademark or trade name, an infringement problem, buying or selling rights, or bringing a brand to market. Experience with athletes, artists and entertainers, along with work in technology and defence, shapes the way the associate approaches each client's situation.

Away from the office, you'll find Turchyn travelling, eating well and getting outside. These days that means pond hockey, golf with no one keeping score, live music and as many sunsets as possible.

Sport ran through Turchyn's studies long before law school. A kinesiology degree at Western University included published biomechanics research, and a master's in sport management followed before a JD at Queen's University and a 2024 call to the Ontario bar. Along the way, Turchyn was a teaching assistant in biomechanics and sport law, a research assistant on a youth sport concussion study, an editor of the Queen's Law Journal, and president of the Queen's Law Sports and Entertainment Law Society. In 2025, Turchyn returned to Western's law school as a guest lecturer on international trademark protection.
