About Richard

Richard W. Johnson is a partner at Torys LLP focused on corporate taxation. He advises on mergers, acquisitions, dispositions and other reorganizations, debt and equity offerings, structured note products and the taxation of employee incentive plans. Johnson also has experience in transactions involving alternative and renewable energy, such as wind, solar and hydro projects, and other infrastructure. His tax work extends to sales and use tax, GST and HST matters, including advising on the formation of an offshore managed account platform and guiding charities and non-profits on tax compliance. Johnson is a band member of the Six Nations of the Grand River and advises on tax matters affecting First Nations and their members. He does pro bono work with Right To Play International and belongs to the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Ontario Bar Association's Taxation Law Section.
