Richard Aitken has practiced criminal law since being called to the bar in Ontario in 1984. Nearly two decades of part-time work for the Crown Attorney's office early in the career shaped an approach to defence work. The practice originally covered sexual assault and DUI cases and has increasingly focused on DUI defence over the years; Richard even owns an Intoxilyzer 8000, the instrument Ontario police use to test blood alcohol levels, and has completed additional training in areas like breath-testing instrumentation and metrology to keep pace with the science behind impaired driving cases. Richard also continues to represent people charged with domestic assault, an area where many cases are rooted in the stresses of family life rather than habitual violence.
