R. Alan Harris founded Harris + Harris LLP and remained connected to the firm as counsel right up to his retirement in 2005. He studied at Victoria College before earning his law degree at the University of Toronto, and after being called to the bar in 1964 he spent more than 39 years serving clients in the Etobicoke area. His practice centred on corporate and commercial litigation, touching on shareholder disputes between public and private companies, bankruptcy matters, personal injury, wrongful dismissal, product liability, class actions, and cases involving securities and medical malpractice. He also handled injunction proceedings, including one of Ontario's earliest Mareva injunctions. He appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, and belonged to the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association.
