About Porter

Porter Heffernan is a partner at Emond Harnden and an advocate before the courts and administrative adjudicators, having appeared before labour arbitrators, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Federal Courts. He maintains a diverse practice with clients in heavy industry, education, municipal, and arts sectors, and has particular experience in healthcare labour relations, regularly advising hospitals on union relationships and representing them in arbitration. He holds an LL.B. and an LL.M. with a specialization in labour law from Dalhousie Law School, where his thesis examined the tension between union democracy and cooperative models of labour relations. He received several scholarships during his studies, including a Killam Foundation Scholarship. He is a member of the Law Societies of Ontario and Alberta, the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations, the County of Carleton Law Association, and the Human Resources Professionals Association.
