About Philip
Philip Barton has represented Indigenous communities in more than $2.5 billion of Indigenous investments for equity in major projects between 2017 and 2025, and communities receiving $800 million of the current $1.15 billion in total Alberta and federal loan guarantees, including the largest-ever Alberta loan guarantee and the first-ever federal loan guarantee. He has over 20 years of experience closing acquisition and finance transactions, drawing on an engineering background, and represented the partnership of 38 First Nations in their $736 million acquisition of 12.5% equity in Enbridge's Westcoast pipeline system, which won the Capital Markets Deal of the Year at the 2026 Canadian Law Awards. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 2004 and the BC Bar in 2009. He practises through a personal law corporation.
