About Peter Simeon

Raising capital and getting deals done is the heart of Peter Simeon's work. A partner in Gowling WLG's Toronto office, Simeon is a corporate commercial and securities lawyer who concentrates on corporate finance, M&A and structured products. The people on the other end of the phone tend to be issuers, underwriters and other businesses, and the aim is always advice that's practical and moves a transaction ahead. Those clients come from technology, mining and cannabis, among other industries.

Simeon has also worked inside a company and at the securities regulator. The in-house chapter ran several years, as corporate counsel to a multinational technology business, and there was a secondment to the Market Regulation Group at the Ontario Securities Commission. Simeon was called to the Ontario bar in 2002 and holds an Osgoode Hall LLB.

Cannabis is a big part of the story. The cannabis group at Gowling WLG exists because Simeon took the initiative to organize it, pulling in colleagues from different practices and from across Canada, and by 2019 that team counted more than 100 practitioners with Simeon as co-head. Publicly listed cannabis companies, investment banks and cannabis investors were all on the client list then, and Simeon had given many presentations to issuers, banks and stock exchanges. Canadian Lawyer put Simeon on its Top 25 Most Influential list that same year. Today Simeon still co-leads the group.

Mining is the other steady thread. Simeon's capital markets and corporate work has a mining focus, and Simeon serves on the boards of several Canadian listed mining companies. In October 2026, Quimbaya Gold appointed Simeon a director and a member of its governance and compensation committee.
