About Mike

Mike is the founding partner of Valent Legal, practising personal injury law with a focus on serious injury, sexual abuse, and medical negligence claims, as well as corporate and pharmaceutical liability cases. He has been recognized annually in the Lexpert Directory since 2017 and was named Atlantic Canada's 2022 Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers. He was inducted into the King's Counsel in 2025 and teaches class action law and procedure as a part-time professor at Dalhousie's Schulich School of Law. Mike has argued several precedent-setting class actions in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, including the first certified class action in New Brunswick's history and the first national class action certified in Nova Scotia. He holds a Juris Doctor and a BSc in Biology and Economics from Dalhousie University, and is a past president of the Atlantic Provinces Trial Lawyers Association.
