About Miete
Miete Penedo Costa was called to the Alberta Bar in July 2025 after working as a summer student and articling student at Chapman Riebeek, where she supported the firm's lawyers on corporate, commercial and employment litigation, contractual disputes, municipal matters and family matters. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce with Distinction from the University of Alberta and a JD from the University of Calgary, Faculty of Law. Born in Angola, she moved to Canada as a child and lived in Toronto and Edmonton before settling in Red Deer. Her practice focuses on civil and employment litigation, and she is involved with the Red Deer Community Legal Clinic and serves as communications director for the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers.
