Michael practises family law at RPB Family Law, drawing on experience from his articling at Westaway, where he practised both Indigenous and family law, and from a subsequent role at a small family law firm in downtown Ottawa. He completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa in 2020, graduating cum laude, and won first place with his team in the Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition. He also completed an undergraduate degree in Psychology with a minor in Aboriginal Studies at the University of Ottawa, where he played varsity football for the GeeGees and received the President's Award and Academic All-Canadian honours. Michael later completed a master's degree in Human Kinetics, researching how rural and remote Indigenous communities address food insecurity through land-based food practices, and has published two academic articles on the subject. He sits on the Board of Directors for the 1881 Alumni Association for the GeeGees football team and has coached youth football in the Cree Nations of Chisasibi and Mistissini.
