Physicians facing a lawsuit or a complaint are the people Meredith E. Jones works for. A partner in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, Jones leads the firm's Medical Defence, Provincial Counsel practice group across Canada and co-leads the CMPA/Provincial Counsel team in Ottawa. The work spans medical defence litigation of every kind along with professional regulation matters.

Courtroom experience reaches every level. Jones has appeared before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, and physicians have also been represented before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Some of the reported files involve summary judgment for defendant doctors, and one was a medical malpractice trial handled with senior counsel.

Jones grew up in Ottawa but built a career in Toronto first, at Lerners LLP. It started there with a 2005 summer position and articles in 2006, then an associate role in litigation after the 2007 call to the Ontario bar, and partnership in 2016. That same year, Jones represented the Canadian Civil Liberties Association as an intervener at the Supreme Court in Douez v. Facebook, an appeal testing whether a choice-of-forum term in a standard-form online agreement could be enforced. During those Toronto years Jones also spent several years as duty counsel at Law Help Ontario, a Pro Bono Law Ontario project, giving walk-in legal advice at no charge to litigants with low incomes.

Teaching is a steady part of the practice. Jones regularly presents to physicians and medical students on health topics, both within Gowling WLG and outside it. Jones is recognized by Best Lawyers in Health Care Law, Medical Negligence and Professional Malpractice Law.
