About Melanie

Melanie T. Petrunia represents clients in disputes with the Canada Revenue Agency, including audits, objections, and appeals to the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court, and the Federal Court of Appeal. She spent two years in private practice with a major Atlantic Canada law firm before joining the federal Department of Justice's Tax Law Services, where she represented the CRA for eight years. She later moved to acting for taxpayers instead. Petrunia has been part-time faculty at Dalhousie, co-teaching a course on the administration of the Income Tax Act, and has assisted the Dalhousie team at the Donald G.H. Bowman National Tax Moot. She is active with the Canadian Bar Association and volunteers with organizations in the Halifax area. She has appeared in tax court in British Columbia, Ontario, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nunavut. She is a graduate of McGill University and the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie.
