Matthew Burgoyne is a partner at Osler and leads the firm's Digital Assets and Blockchain group within its Corporate practice. His work centers on financial services and securities regulatory questions and building sophisticated corporate structures for clients operating in the digital asset space, including advice on stablecoin arrangements, tokenized securities, cryptoasset trading, custody solutions and regulatory-compliant frameworks for new technologies. He regularly guides clients through complicated dealings with Canadian regulators covering registration, exemptive relief, disclosure duties and operational requirements for digital assets. Matthew was one of the earliest Canadian lawyers to act for cryptocurrency businesses and is often called on by outlets such as Fortune, Reuters, The Globe and Mail and Bloomberg for commentary on crypto law. He sits on several client advisory boards and currently advises the Alberta Securities Commission's technology and innovation committee.
