About Mary
Mary Paterson helps clients reach strong outcomes, whether that means winning at trial or negotiating a favourable settlement. She has appeared before courts throughout Canada, often in disputes marked by complicated facts or heavy reliance on financial and economic expert evidence. Her focus areas include tax litigation before the Tax Court of Canada, insolvency matters such as receiverships, bankruptcies and proceedings under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, and general commercial and contract disputes. Paterson sits on the Board of Directors for Pro Bono Ontario and has helped build several of the firm's pro bono initiatives, including pro bono appearances at the Court of Appeal. She has received recognition from multiple legal publications for her litigation practice and for mentoring junior lawyers. Before joining Osler, she clerked at the Court of Appeal for Ontario.
