About Martha

Martha MacDonald is a partner and experienced tax litigator known for her advocacy before the courts and her command of complex tax disputes. She leads Torys' Tax Controversy and Litigation Practice, appearing before trial and appellate courts and handling dispute resolution with the Canada Revenue Agency and provincial tax authorities. Her work touches on transfer pricing, tax avoidance, foreign tax credits, tax residence, taxable employment benefits, and GST/HST issues, along with various administrative and procedural matters. Martha has coached teams in the Donald G. Bowman National Tax Moot since its inception and has guest lectured at the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law. She is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation and, before joining Torys, interned at a law firm in Düsseldorf, Germany, and worked as a foreign legal trainee at a firm in Tokyo, Japan.
