About Marshall
Marshall Hopkins has practised criminal law as both a defence lawyer and a prosecutor for more than twenty years, handling cases including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, robbery, sexual assault, drug conspiracy and large-scale fraud. He graduated from the University of Alberta law school in 1994, then articled and practised for years with Edmonton criminal lawyer Alexander Pringle before spending seven years at Alberta Justice and returning to defence work. Hopkins has an active appellate practice at all levels of court in Canada and has prosecuted and defended high-profile occupational health and safety cases. He has worked closely with Elders and leaders of Alberta's First Nations for years, both as a prosecutor and defence lawyer, and builds his practice around values that recognize the impact of colonialism, residential schools and systemic racism on Indigenous communities.
