About Maia

Maia Abbas completed a B.A. in Psychology at the University of Western Ontario in 2012, went on to earn her J.D. there in 2015, and completed an LL.M. in 2016 with a thesis examining how chronic pain disorders are accommodated in the workplace, considering related WSIB and long-term disability insurance issues. She articled with ZTGH and was called to the bar in 2017, then rejoined the firm as an associate. Her practice covers accident benefits claims, License Appeal Tribunal and priority/loss transfer disputes, and tort actions arising from motor vehicle accidents, with particular attention to how such disputes arise in the sharing economy, and she has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice and assisted with trial work, including the Sharma v. Stewart matter. During law school she served as an editor of the Western Journal of Legal Studies and won the Alex Kennedy Memorial Scholarship for her interest and skill in insurance law, and as an LL.M. student she also gave guest lectures at the law school and on the main campus.
