About Linda
Linda Phillips-Smith is a civil litigator whose practice today centers on coverage disputes involving CGL, D&O and excess policies, along with institutional abuse claims, products liability, and municipal matters. She has defended class actions since they first emerged in Canada, including cases tied to tainted blood, gas explosions, medical devices and implants, and insurance brokers and securities trading. Since the 1990s she has also handled institutional abuse claims, among them native residential school claims, Children's Aid Society matters, and claims against school boards and religious organizations. Linda regularly appears before all levels of Ontario courts, as well as the Federal Court at trial and the Supreme Court of Canada. She graduated from Dalhousie University and the University of Toronto, where she now teaches.
