Lauren Richardson's work sits where consumer products meet the rules that govern how they're sold and promoted. As an associate with the Business Law Group in Gowling WLG's Ottawa office, Richardson advises on advertising, commercial and regulatory questions for goods that range from food and natural health products to medical devices and pesticides. Businesses built on multi-level marketing or direct selling also turn to Richardson for provincial licensing and compliance help, and consumer protection issues are part of the mix.

Richardson was called to the Ontario bar in 2022 after earning an LLB at the University of Edinburgh. While there, the future associate was secretary of the Graduate Law Society. Scotland also left room for life outside class: Richardson kept up old interests and tried new ones, with rowing, cycling and golf all on the list.

Science is the other half of the story. Richardson holds an honours BSc in pharmacology and biomedical toxicology from the University of Toronto. Pre-Gowling, there was a stint in regulatory affairs dealing with new substance notifications and environmental rules for drugs and biotech products, as well as industry experience in pharmaceuticals and in chemical and polymer distribution. Rowing goes back a while, too. Richardson once coached the Learn to Row program at the Guelph Rowing Club.
