About Kathryn

Kathryn Dumke, K.C., was born in Korbach, Germany, in 1954 and worked as a farmer in Germany and Canada until 1990, before earning her law degree from Dalhousie University in 1992. She has practiced on Nova Scotia's South Shore since then and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2017. Dumke was a founding member of the South Shore Waldorf School Association, which opened the province's first Waldorf School in 1995, and is a former two-term president of the Lunenburg County Barristers' Association. She served on the Council of the Nova Scotia Barristers Society from 2010 to 2011 and is a member of the Advisory Committee on King's Counsel Appointments, the Board of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission, and Council of the Canadian Bar Association's Nova Scotia Branch. She also sits on the board of Freeman House, which supports youth and families of all diversities, cultures and LGBT2Q+ identities.
