Katherine has received several awards recognizing her advocacy for human rights and social justice, including the Minaake Award, which recognizes Human Rights and Advocacy, given by the Native Women's Resource Centre, along with the Arleen Goss Young Advocates Award, presented by the Advocates Society. She is frequently invited by law schools, professional associations, regulatory bodies, First Nations, and Tribal Councils to speak and teach within her field. Between 2011 and 2019, she held a position as an adjunct professor with the University of Toronto's Faculty of Law, and from 2017 to 2020, she was a member of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee in Ontario. Before joining Foglers, she spent a decade, from 2011 to 2021, running her own practice, Hensel Barristers, where she represented Indigenous clients and earned repeated recognition from the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and Best Lawyers in Canada. In 2021, the Globe and Mail listed Hensel Barristers among the top 19 law firms in Canada working in Aboriginal and Indigenous law. In 2023, Canadian Lawyer named her among the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada.
