About Kate

Kate Shao is a union-side labour lawyer who represents trade union clients at grievance arbitrations, administrative tribunals and courts across Ontario. Before joining Paliare Roland in 2021, she worked in the City of Toronto's Legal Services Division and Human Rights Office, and began her career at a labour and employment law boutique. Kate is an advocate for human rights and social justice and has written and spoken on issues of race, gender and identity, and she serves on the firm's Inclusion Committee. She has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada: Ones to Watch for her work in labour and employment law. Kate holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto and a B.A. with honours in Political Studies and Global Development from Queen's University, and she was called to the Ontario bar in 2018.
