About Joseph
Joseph Mercado is a family law litigator whose practice includes high-stakes international child abduction and cross-border relocation matters. Within his first six months of practice he conducted a Hague Convention child abduction trial that produced a published decision, LY v RY, and has since been designated a recommended junior counsel by the Central Authority of Alberta for international abduction cases. He also obtained a favourable ruling in an international relocation trial and an annulment of an international marriage. Joseph holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law (2022) and a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from the University of Calgary (2019), and represented the University of Toronto in the National Walsh Family Law Moot. He favours settlement where possible but has a growing courtroom practice, including obtaining a Mareva injunction against cryptocurrency assets, and previously worked in-house at a medical technology company.
