About John
John H. Wilson, K.C. has retired from practice at Wilson Laycraft but remains a familiar presence at the firm. As its most senior member, his practice spanned more than 30 years of general civil litigation, resolving disputes through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, trials, and appeals in areas including wrongful dismissal, shareholder oppression, directors' and officers' liability, professional negligence, real estate, securities, creditors' rights, estates, and insurance coverage. He acted as lead counsel on more than 100 civil trials and appeals and represented parties before regulatory tribunals such as the Alberta Securities Commission. John earned his BA from Queen's University in 1972 and his LLB from the same school in 1975, was called to the Ontario bar in 1977 and the Alberta bar in 1979, and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2010. He is a past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Art Gallery of Calgary.
