Jean Lanctot founded Lanctot Avocats in 1993 and has been a member of the Barreau du Québec since 1985, practising mainly in professional and disciplinary law. For nearly 40 years he has represented numerous professional orders as counsel and legal advisor. He is a frequent guest speaker in continuing-education programs run by various professional orders and has taught the course 'Éthique, déontologie et pratique professionnelle' at the École du Barreau du Québec since 2001. He contributes to updates of the Barreau's professional training materials and received the Avocat émérite distinction in 2023. Since January 2025 he has chaired the Canadian national committee of the Union Internationale des Avocats.
