About Jason

Jason (Jay) Herbert grew up in Toronto, where he worked in construction before graduating with honours from York University in history. He earned his Juris Doctor at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Law, and gained early experience at the Scarborough Crown Attorney's Office and at a law firm on a First Nation reserve in rural Northern Ontario. He has practised law in Muskoka for more than 15 years, focusing on First Nation communities and clients, and also handles civil and criminal matters, including appeals and the defence of clients accused of homicide and other serious offences. Jay is a member of Rama First Nation, an elected trustee of the Coldwater Narrows Land Trust, and an accredited member of the National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association.
