About James

James Murphy is counsel at Ogilvie LLP in Edmonton, advising on administrative law matters including land use planning, government proceedings, and securities regulation, as well as business law matters such as corporate governance and real property transactions. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta in 1980 and was called to the Alberta bar in 1981. Murphy was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2000 and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada since 2023. Murphy is a past chair of the Canadian Bar Association's Administrative Law Section and the City of Edmonton Development Appeal Board, and was formerly an adjunct professor at Concordia University College.
