About James

James Maher received his Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and practiced for over 32 years with the provincial Department of Justice and Public Safety. As a Crown Attorney and Senior Crown Attorney he prosecuted and supervised criminal cases at all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador, with extensive experience prosecuting sexual assault and personal injury offences in the Supreme Court's General Division. As a Solicitor with the Civil Division of Justice and Public Safety, he focused on human rights and labour issues. He received the honorary designation of King's Counsel in 2010. He has been a long-time CNIB volunteer, chairing the NL Division Advisory Board and serving on the National Board of Directors, and received the CNIB's Magill Distinguished Service Award in 2020.
