About Ian

Ian Bownick is a lawyer at RTG Law Group focused on civil liberties and criminal justice reform, having entered law school as a mature student. As a student he worked with low-income accused through the Law Students' Legal Advice program, volunteered as a policy research assistant with the BC Civil Liberties Association, and worked with the UBC Innocence Project clinic. He joined RTG Law Group as a legal assistant in February 2022 and began formal articles that September. Through his articling period and since, he has assisted on matters ranging from simple assault trials to second-degree murder sentencing, and has acted as lead counsel on charges including harassment, assault, and breach of a court order.
