About Hugh
Hugh Kerr is a senior commercial lawyer with deep experience in life and health insurance regulation. His background also includes capital accumulation plans and work on pension de-risking transactions, covering liability driven investing, annuity buy-in and buy-out deals, and longevity insurance. He combines knowledge of business strategy with regulatory work, dealing regularly with federal and provincial regulators and policymakers, and he has handled assumption reinsurance, reinsurance with offshore captives, and partnerships with fintech companies. Before joining Caravel, Hugh worked at Blake, Cassels & Graydon and at Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada. He earned his LL.B. from Queen's University in 1988 and a combined B.Comm/B.A. from McMaster University in 1985.
